Today’s 2nd reading asks “what sort of persons ought you to be in leading lives of holiness and godliness”. Responding to the call to holiness is how we share in preparing the world for Christ’s coming. This is the mission of Christ that we share as the baptized. We grow in holiness as we seek to deepen our personal relationship to Christ, and allow the Holy Spirit to use us as instruments of grace, by using our gifts to build the kingdom of God. If you are a member of the body of Christ you have specific purposes in that body to help it function as God desires. During this Advent season, prayerfully invite the Lord to show you the gifts he has bestowed upon you for the service of others. The Assumption faith community does many good works, often with few and tired hands. Imagine how the parish would thrive if each person humbly yet confidently offered their best gifts in the most suitable places for their use. As you give time, energy and love to choosing the right gift for your loved ones this season, let us also give time, energy, and love to discerning our best gifts of the spirit to give to the mission of Christ’s Church in the world.
