Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!
See if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!
(Psalm 139:23-24)

Act of Contrition

As I search my heart through these questions, fill me with courage and light, ever mindful of your abundant mercy and steadfast love.

Have I failed to give thanks to God for the blessings in my life?

Have I neglected daily prayer? Do I participate in Mass regularly?

Have I failed to live up to my capabilities and talents?

Have I been disrespectful of persons in authority over me, or those I have authority over?

Have I loved money, possessions of forms of entertainment more than people in my life?

Have I put ideas before people, or been quick to judge someone?

Have I shown mercy to those who wrong me? Accepted the mercy of those who offer it?

Have I treated others, especially those less fortunate, as I would hope to be treated?

Have I lacked self-control or constantly lost my temper?

Have I been careful in my driving, eating, drinking and smoking habits?

Have I finished my responsibilities or left my work incomplete?

Have I looked into my heart to truly discern what is right and just?

Have I opened my heart to welcome and understand those who are “other” to me?

Have I shown respect for the significant people in my life?

Have I mainly looked out for myself and been blind to the troubles of others?

Have I said or done things to hurt others? Have I simply not cared?

Have I failed to help others? Was I silent when others were wronged?

Have I been a responsible citizen and contributed to the well being of my communities?

Have I shared my time, talent and treasure with others, especially those less fortunate?

Have I been a source of joy and hope for people around me?
